About us

Led by people who have walked the road.

Now Is the Day is a faith-based ministry in Colfax, California, for men and women facing addiction, homelessness, unemployment and personal crisis.

Our mission

To spark meaningful growth under the burden of purpose.

Most recovery programs treat the behavior. We treat the root. Addiction, homelessness and joblessness are usually where a deeper wound shows up, not where it starts: abuse, trauma or loss that keeps the cycle going.

Guided by 26 core moral principles, we empower men and women with disciplined, purposeful lives in their own communities, so the change lasts after they leave our doors.

How we'll help

Three parts of the same work

Practical help

Meeting real needs first: a safe place to land, rides, and the basics that make a fresh start possible.

Mentorship & workshops

One-on-one mentors and hands-on workshops in life skills, work habits and trades through Recycle to Recovery.

Spiritual guidance

Discipleship rooted in Christ, for anyone who wants it, because lasting change starts on the inside.

John Hermiston

John has walked through many of these trials himself. That experience gave him a passion for helping people and more than a decade of helping others find sobriety and build manageable lives, through recovery support and Christian counseling.

He started Now Is the Day so that men and women in the foothills would have a place to begin again, close to home.

What we stand on

The names of God

Every person who comes to us needs provision, healing, peace and a shepherd. These names remind us who does the real work.

Our commitments

How we operate

Faith-based, privately funded

We don't seek or accept government funding, so our faith-based mission stays intact. We take no part in political campaigns or lobbying.

Accountable with every gift

Every gift is receipted and goes into Now Is the Day's own bank account, overseen by our CFO.
