Now Is the Day is not taking enrollments or intakes yet. Right now we're raising funds for an intake facility and recruiting the volunteers who will help us open it. If you or someone you love needs help today, call or text 988 for crisis support, or reach out to us and we'll help you find a program near you.
To spark meaningful growth under the burden of purpose.
Addiction, homelessness and joblessness are usually where a deeper wound shows up, not where it starts. Now Is the Day works on what sits underneath: the abuse, trauma or loss that keeps the cycle going.
Guided by 26 core moral principles, we walk with men and women through mentorship, practical help, hands-on workshops, and spiritual guidance rooted in Christ, so they can build disciplined, purposeful lives in their own communities.
Four steps to opening our doors
-
1
Under way
Federal tax-exempt recognition
We have our EIN and are filing with the IRS for 501(c)(3) recognition.
-
2
Next
A 15-passenger van
Rides to meetings, appointments, job interviews and church are often the difference between a good week and a relapse.
-
3
Planned
An intake facility
A leased or owned home base where people can be received safely when they're ready to start.
-
4
Planned
Recycle to Recovery
Job training in refurbishing and recycling electronics, so people in recovery leave with a trade as well as a testimony.
Led by people who have walked the road
John Hermiston
Twelve years sober, with a decade of recovery support and Christian counseling. Thirty years in the trades.
Candice Hermiston
Background in child development and trauma-informed care.
Patricia Hermiston
Former business owner with experience in accounting, budgeting and nonprofit financial management.
Help us open the doors
The intake facility is the heart of this work: a safe, structured place where a man or woman can be received the day they decide to change. Your gift goes toward the lease or purchase, basic furnishings, and getting the building ready to serve.
We'll also need a 15-passenger van to get people to meetings, appointments, work and church.
Give by check
Make checks payable to Now Is the Day and mail to:
550 Miller Drive
Colfax, CA 95713
Write "Facility Fund" on the memo line. Every gift gets a written receipt. Online giving is coming soon.
We need people more than anything
A building doesn't change lives; people do. If one of these fits you, call, text or email John and tell us a little about yourself.
Mentors
Mature believers, especially those with time in recovery, to walk one-on-one with men and women starting over.
Tradespeople
Carpenters, electricians, plumbers and handy hands to get our facility ready, and to teach skills once we open.
Drivers
Licensed drivers with a clean record to help with rides to meetings, appointments and church once the van is on the road.
Prayer team
People who will pray regularly for our leadership, our future residents and the decisions ahead.
Office & grant help
Help with grant writing, bookkeeping, social media and event planning, much of it from home.
Church partners
Pastors and outreach teams: let's serve alongside each other and share what we each have. We'll come to you.
